Wednesday, February 2nd marked National Signing Day across the country. This is a day to honor and recognize high school athletes signing their National Letters of Intent (NLI), with colleges and universities, to further their education while participating in athletics. The Brazoswood Buccaneers had four football players sign their NLI today. Dijon James, running back, and Tyshawn Thomas, defensive end, both signed with Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. Thomas and James who have been Buccaneers together since their freshman year will now start all over together as Lobos. Sul Ross State University is a member of the American Southwest Conference (ASC). The University of Mary-Hardin Baylor is also a member of the ASC and their roster will now include Stonewall Vernor. The Buccaneer defensive tackle signed with the defending National Champion Crusader team. The University of Mary-Hardin Baylor is located in Belton, Texas. While Vernor, James and Thomas will stay in state to continue their athletic careers, defensive end Vontroy Malone will head up north to play at the University of Tulsa. Tulsa is a member of the American Athletic Conference (AAC). The AAC includes schools such as the University of Houston, SMU, Memphis, Tulane and Cincinnati who went undefeated and entered the BCS playoffs as # 4 in the country. Tulsa went 7-6 in the 21-22 season and won the Myrtle Beach Bowl. We are extremely proud and excited for these young men. They have represented our program well and we know they will do great things at the next level.
