The Brazoswood Bucs Freshmen A Team traveled to the Sam Rayburn High School tournament on Saturday. The Bucs were the first game of the day, starting the tournament out against the host team. After a slow start the bucs were able to pull away in the 4th quarter for a Bucs victory 62-49. Point Guard Miguel Nava shot the ball very well, making five 3-pointers and finished the game with 22 points.
After a long wait for the second game, the Bucs played Pasadena High School in the Semifinals game. The Bucs found themselves behind the entire game, trailing at halftime 31-8 and trailing at the start of the 4th quarter 45-23. The team rallied together in the 4th with great pressure defense that translated to quick points. Guard Robert Young hit several big 3 pointers, Guard Sincere Rendon had several steals which led to layups. The pressure was led by Jose Trevino, Miguel Nava & Shaydon Coulter pressing the Pasadena guards. The Bucs were able to fight back and rallied down 22 points in the 4th quarter to come back and win 51-49. Leading scorers were Miguel Nava (19) and Robert Young (9).
In the Championship game, the Bucs faced Deer Park for the final game of the night. The Bucs started out well with a 17-6 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. The leading scorers were Jose Trevino (17), Miguel Nava (13) and TJ Johnson (5). Unfortunately, the Bucs ran out of gas near the end. The Bucs come up short with the final score of 49-39. The Bucs finished in 2nd place.
